Evolution Korea
In the past the Korean scientific community was hesitant about working with creationists due to the fear of giving the movement more credibility. Silence is no longer an option.
The STR has been battling to remove content from textbooks that describe evolution, such as the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an early bird's ancestor. This is just one aspect of how the development paradigm has evolved.
What is Evolution?
news is a theory of science that explains the changes in the genetic traits of living organisms over time. The theory is based on the fact that living organisms adapt to their environments, which can cause variations in genes, or even entire genomes. These changes could over generations lead to the emergence of new species. Natural selection is the predominant theory of evolution. It explains how people who have advantages are more likely to reproduce and survive than those with disadvantageous ones. This differing reproduction may, over time, lead to the development and emergence of new species.
The word "evolution" originates from the Latin for revealing or unrolling, has been used in a variety of different ways as the concept has changed in both science and elsewhere. 무료 에볼루션 like Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predetermined to change into another species. Etienne Geoffroy St-Hilaire, Lamarck's embryologist student who invented the term "transmutation" to describe this view. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833, attacked this idea and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the idea that existing species evolve into new species in a gradual and predictable manner.
Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process by which living organisms develop traits to increase their chances of living or producing offspring. Over time this genetic variation can result in the development of completely new biological functions or physical traits in the same population. Such a shift in gene frequency is called natural selection, and is the primary driver behind evolutionary change. However, non-genetic changes such as the increase in muscle mass due to exercise or diet cannot be considered to be examples of evolution because they are not inherited by future generations.
Creationists are using the argument that evolution is controversial, even though it has been proven accurate by thousands of scientific tests and it has been tested over time. They claim that the concept should not be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists have won a few victories in their fight to remove evolution from textbooks for high school and have also gotten rid of any references to the evolutionary origins of humans as well as the Archaeopteryx feathered dinosaur that is thought to be the ancestor of birds.
Why is Evolution Important for Humanity?

Evolution explains the origins and evolution of Earth and all living species. It is also one of the foundations of biology, and helps scientists understand how living things work and develop. Evolution also shows the connections between different species. Scientists study evolution in order to better comprehend nature and make valuable discoveries such as new treatments.
The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. No other scientific theory can explain more about the universe and life on our planet. It has been rigorously studied and verified for many years. Many people, including religious leaders, are in favor of the scientific theory. It is important to remember that evolutionary biology does not contradict religious beliefs, since the theory is based on things, events and processes within the physical world.
Many religious people have discovered a way to reconcile evolution with their convictions. Certain Christians, for example, believe that God created everything through evolution and that humans share an ancestry that is shared with other animals.
It is important that scientists and educators speak out for the teaching evolution. In some nations around the world the anti-evolution movement is growing. In the United States some states have taken steps to limit teaching evolution. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC), is campaigning for textbooks that cover the evolutionary history of horses and their ancestral avian species Archaeopteryx.
Although these are alarming developments, it is important to remember that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution comes from many sources, including fossils, genetics, and even the behavior of living creatures. Other scientists independently verify the evidence.
The vast majority of scientists agree with the theory of evolution. The reasons for this support are diverse. Scientists are studying evolution to make practical discoveries such as the development of new medicines, while others do so to improve animal and plants species, typically to benefit of humans. Some are simply curious, and others have a deep religious belief in God and seek to know how the universe functions.
What is Creationism?
Creationists are those who believe that God created the universe and all that is in it. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken as such. Many creationists are Christians however, not all. Creationists are generally divided into two categories: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.
YECs are the most well known type of creationist, and they believe that God created the universe in the exact way described in the Bible. YECs hold that the biblical account of the first six days of creation was true and that the universe as well as life on Earth were only created recently.
OECs are less well known However, they are just as committed to their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and all life on Earth are billions of years old and that evolution is an untruth.
Both forms of creationism reject the notion that scientific theories such as natural selection and abiogenesis could explain the origin of life on Earth. They argue that evolution isn't possible because it requires a miracle, and that the scientists who founded modern science eschewed miracles for fear that they would lose credibility.
Some creationists believe in naturalistic evolution as well as special creation, and refer to their position "theistic evolution." This is also known as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of created kinds." This theory states that God creates species from scratch and then allows these to evolve over time. These evolution changes will eventually result in new species that are similar to the original.
Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the entire universe in one event called the Great Flood. They believe that all species were created at the same moment and that they gradually evolved. They reject the concept of abiogenesis, and argue that self-replicating life can't come from non-living matter.
In general, the creationists oppose teaching evolution at schools. Numerous professional associations, like the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education are in support of this view, as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. However, certain academic institutions and scientists are more flexible and allow for the inclusion of both evolution and creationism in their curricula.
What is Creationism in Korea?
When people think of the concept of creationism typically think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolutionist group. The publishers of high school textbooks recently announced that they would eliminate references to evolution from their editions. A group known as the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an independent organization that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research, has led the drive. STR has won its first victory by taking away examples of the evolution of the horse and an avian ancestor, called the Archeopteryx from textbooks. The next step is to remove portions of Darwin's notorious finch-research and also on human evolution.
STR claims to have the support of 4,000 families and individual members. The goal, according to STR, is to rid the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" that paints an unflattering image for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American creationists in the United States. A survey of students in biology found that half didn't believe in evolution. The reasons for this aren't entirely certain, but could be related to religion or the absence of creation scientists in the United States.
The KACR achieved many things through its seminars and lectures in the past. It publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and a book. Among these is a textbook on the natural sciences, with an evolutionary perspective that has sparked interest among college students. In 1991, a professor, together with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.
On August 6-7 the 7th of August 1993, which coincided with the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from abroad including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish, and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of over a thousand. KACR and its members have given lectures on creation science at major seminaries too. KACR intends to establish a Creation Science Education Center.
